Fate Lovers Of The Universe Book 1 – Aliyy

My eyes snapped open, and there he stood, leaning against the doorframe with a deliberate ease that felt almost dangerous. His black shirt clung to broad shoulders, sleeves rolled to his elbows, the top buttons left undone. A loose tie hung carelessly around his collar. No coat. Just him, impossibly composed, impossibly magnetic. I swung my legs out of the bed and stood, the silk of my gown brushing against my thighs as I moved toward him.
My gaze locked on his, sharp and incredulous. “What are you doing here?” My voice wavered, betraying more than I wanted. “It’s my house too,” he said evenly, stepping away from the door frame just enough to fully face me. His eyes didn’t flinch. They held me, daring me to challenge him. “I know,” I bit out, trying to keep my tone even, “but why are you here…
in this room?” He tilted his head, a smirk playing on his lips. One step. Then another. His presence pressed into me until we were nearly touching, the space between us crackling. “Can’t you see?” His voice dropped, low and intimate. “I came here for the consummation of our marriage.” My lungs betrayed me, shallow and uneven. That word— consummation—hung between us, heavy and daring. Stupid butterflies fluttered in my stomach, uninvited and relentless.
“Will you not fulfill your duties as a wife?” His smirk deepened. One hand lifted, fingers sliding along the line of my jaw until his thumb brushed against my bottom lip. Just that touch, light and deliberate, set my blood aflame, the warmth searing straight to my cheeks. I froze, words trapped somewhere behind the sudden thrum of my heartbeat.
His eyes didn’t waver; his gaze bored into mine, confident, teasing, and merciless. My body betrayed me, responding to him in ways I refused to acknowledge. I hated it. Hated that my words were trapped, and my body refused to obey me. “Look at your face,” he murmured, the corners of his mouth twitching as though he were suppressing a grin. “Shut up!” I snapped, swatting his hand away from my face. “Why the hell did you kiss me on the lips?”
I demanded, frustration and disbelief tangling in my voice. “I told you not to do it.” “That’s the problem, Flower,” he countered, tilting his head, his gaze locking onto mine. And what was with the sudden nickname? He was doing this on purpose to piss me off. “You haven’t said it…
clearly.” “What?” My brow furrowed in confusion, my pulse hammering in my ears. “You dared me,” he said simply, his smirk growing. “What do you mean?” I pressed, unable to hide the unease creeping up my spine. “You dared me not to kiss you,” he explained, stepping closer, so close I could feel the heat radiating from him.
“And I took it as a challenge. You know I don’t back down from a dare.” I blinked, stunned.

The word clung to my skin like something shameful. It was hard to process. One moment, I was preparing for a pitch meeting.
The next, I was being told my position was no longer required. Just like that, my career at Orvis & Lane had ended. Three years of loyalty, of late nights and caffeine-fueled weekends, gone in a matter of minutes. I stared at the ceiling of my bedroom, feeling the silence close in. The walls, once a safe space, now seemed to whisper every insecurity I tried to bury. I needed this job. The front door swung open, followed by the familiar clack of heels and the scent of takeout.
Moments later, Ava burst into my room like a hurricane, holding two smoothies and a brown paper bag dripping with something fried. “You’re still sulking? Get up, Azalea. We’re going to fix this.” I barely moved. “Fix what, exactly?” She rolled her eyes and flopped down beside me, shoving a smoothie into my hand.
“Your entire vibe. You are smart, beautiful, and stubborn as hell. You’ll bounce back.” I took a sip. Mango-pineapple. My favorite.
