She reaches out a hand, inviting him. “Come to bed. I don’t have another side, but I can lie on top of you.” She gives him a blissed-out smile. “You can have my butt side.” “I’ll get you something to eat,” he says, leaving the room. Fraser snorts.

“He’s so big on refreshments.” “He’s really nice,” Summer mumbles, lashes dipping. “Sure. To about three people. You must be very special.” She snuggles between us both. I drag her closer, letting my hand fall on her plush behind. My mind is hazing and softening with an unfamiliar feeling. Warm and bright and golden. I don’t know what it is.

All I know is I could stay here forever… My phone rings on the nightstand. I ignore it. There’s a moment of silence, then phone starts to ring again. Cold cuts through me. I sit up. It might be an emergency. I suddenly remember being a teenager in a noisy pub. My phone ringing over and over and over. How I eventually picked it up, annoyed, and everything fell out from under me.

I’m out of bed before I know what’s happening. Summer blinks up at me sleepily. “Sorry,” I say quietly, grabbing my jeans. “I need to take this.” She pouts and rolls into Fraser’s arms, closing her eyes again. I step into the lounge, stabbing at my screen to accept the call. “Hello? Is something wrong?” My lungs aren’t filling right. I’m bracing for impact. “Mr Gray,” a cool male voice says.

“This is Charlie McDean. From the council. I have some news for you.” OceanofPDF.com or God’s sake. slump against the door, my heart pounding embarrassingly fast. “It’s late. I was busy. Why are you calling.” “My apologies, Mr Gray. There’s been a recent development which you need to be made aware of. In light of recent updates to the local land taxation bill, which now takes into account real estate pricing and—” My head is still so fogged up I can barely make out a word he’s saying.

“Get to the point,” I snap. A pause. “The council has changed the rules about agricultural land taxation,” the man says eventually. “Your land tax will increase come next month.” “To what?” The number he says makes my mouth go dry. “That’s — That’s four hundred percent of what we currently pay. You’re quadrupling our taxes? Are you out of your damn mind?” “I understand this may be a financial burden,” Charlie says smoothly. “If it’s too much of a strain, I might recommend taking up the generous purchase offer from the council.

To my knowledge, they recently upped the offer, did they not?” I pinch the bridge of my nose. “You’re upping my taxes to force me to sell.” “Oh, goodness, no, Mr Gray. I can assure you that these two events are unlinked. I simply thought—” “I’ve told you a million times. Lochview is not. For. Sale.

OceanofPDF.com AUTHOR’S NOTE Highland Hideaway is a ‘why choose’ romance — a romance novel featuring multiple love interests who the main character doesn’t have to choose between. It features graphic steamy group scenes between multiple partners (don’t be fooled by the cute cartoon cover — it’s spicy!) While this is overall a sweet, steam-filled romance, it does touch on several sensitive topics. You can find a full list on my website at: www.lilygoldauthor.com. Happy reading! OceanofPDF.com S ONE SUMMER omewhere, an alarm is beeping, and it’s making me want to die.

I groan, roll over, and bury my face into my pillow. “Summer. Wake up.” A hand shakes my shoulder. “Gimme five minutes,” I mumble, trying to suffocate myself with my pillowcase. The alarm is turned off, but the hand keeps shaking me. “Babe, listen. Don’t panic, but you’re going viral.” I jolt awake, immediately panicking. I’m in my pink bedroom. Morning sunlight filters through my curtains. My social-media-manager-slash-best-friend Lulu Dey is perched on the end of my puffy quilt.
