Inheritance Of Ruin – Isola Korrin

He was supposed to be here. So where was he, anyway? My stomach tightened. Was he avoiding me? “Is he going to come for dinner at all?” I asked, my tone unusually sour. “Why?” Ophelia demanded. “Do you need him to feed you?” Captain Razzo rolled his eyes, his jaw faintly twitching. “Can you not be immature for a second? It might shock you to know, but she’s not the cause of your problems.” Then he turned to me, shrugging.
“He might not come. He hardly comes down for dinner.” “Well, is he home right now?” I asked, my voice quieter this time. “Oh my god!” Ophelia slammed her hands on the table. “Will you just shut up for a second?” Captain Razzo made a frustrated sound from the back of his throat. “Beth,” Kenzo whispered. “Just eat, okay?” “Sergei!” Captain Razzo suddenly called out to the armed man hovering near the dining room.
“Yes, Captain?!” “Is the Marshal home yet?” “No, Captain!” He looked back at me. “Has your question been answered?” I sighed, poking at my food. “Yeah. Thanks.” The clinging of steel echoed in the room. But I didn’t feel like eating. Not when all I could think about was where Callan was and why he hadn’t come to see me.
He must really hate my presence to the point that he refused to see me. Throughout that day, I waited and waited. But he never came until night fell, and a new day began. OceanofPDF.com This was my playground. I had a habit. I liked to watch people. From high places, preferably. The rooftops, balconies, second floor of the mall overlooking the atrium, the guard tower, watching soldiers parade the ground.
I loved standing at anywhere I could look down at them without being part of them. Was it a bad habit? I wasn’t sure. I was made of chaos and rot, after all. Nothing was good if it came from me. So I supposed it was a bad habit then…to watch people like a creep. But humans were so fascinating, you see. Especially when they didn’t know they were being watched. When they moved differently, freely, carelessly. I liked guessing things about them. Who was loved. Who was lonely.
Who amongst them would go back to an empty house, disappear in the bathroom and cry their lungs out. I liked how some looked fragile, breakable, like a glass. And I found myself wondering, not if they would hurt, but how loud they could scream, how long it would take until they stopped fighting.

AUTHOR’S NOTE Inheritance of Ruin isn’t exactly a love story. No, not yet. Well, the first half of the book might read like one. But after that, it’s nothing but obsession and rot and madness. It’s um, it’s total chaos, really. Messy but perhaps beautiful…it actually just depends on the way you look at it. You might need a bottle of vodka(or any strong drink of your choice), a prescription for the headache, and maybe something for a sore throat because you will find yourself screaming at shadows, at walls, at nothing, questioning your choices.
This book is just a prologue to the universe you’re about to explore. What might look like a plot hole is an intentional set up for book two. When all is said and done, I’m happy you’re here.
