He scowled. “That’s not counted. You canceled our date so you could attend the celebration.” “Exactly. But I took you with me to the party. That should be our fourth date, right?” He shook his head vehemently. “I disagree. I went to you at the party as your plus one; that shouldn’t be considered a date.

A date should be spent between the two of us alone.” I couldn’t help but laugh at his ridiculousness. “You’re impossible. Hopeless.” His mouth twitched with a smile. “Please tell me that this is our fourth date.” “Fine,” I gave up. “It is our fourth date. Happy?” “You have no idea.” He grabbed the side of my face and pressed a kiss to my unsuspecting mouth.

“Don’t speed up the days that we’re together. It was bad enough that things move so slowly during weekdays, and things end in the blink of an eye during our dates.” I smiled. He appeared to be stressed when I insisted that this was our fifth date instead of our fourth. I knew that it was absurd to fight over such trivial things. But for people with only limited time to spend with each other.

Each day was precious. He helped me get on board the boat and introduced me to the captain and the crew. It made me wonder if he owned the yacht, rented it, or if he had some powerful friends that he could have borrowed this luxurious yacht from. The yacht started to cruise at the Upper New York Bay along the Statue of Liberty. Since it was the end of summer, the wind was starting to get colder.

Perfect weather for a picnic. We were on the yacht deck enjoying our scenery when my intrusive thoughts won. “You know,” I said, but then stopped and changed my mind. I didn’t want to appear nosy. “Never mind.” He chuckled while the stewardess prepared wine and canapés for us to enjoy. “What is it, babe?” I couldn’t miss the surprised look from the stewardess when he casually threw that endearment. The woman quickly recovered from her shock and left us alone. I cleared my throat.

“I’m just curious, but I don’t have the right to be curious.” He pushed the champagne glass into my hand and smiled. “Go on,” he encouraged. “Curiosity is good. It means that you’re starting to get curious about me. What is it?” “How did you pull all of this off? Each of our dates is different.

He was away on a business trip while I was busy with my court cases in my office. Now that our schedule had finally cleared up and we could have our fancy dinner at my favorite restaurant, I heard that I was being dumped. The funny thing was, I was not even mad at him. I was not the type of woman who let my emotions control me.

I’m a lawyer. I aim to thoroughly examine the issue and uncover its root cause. I sipped my wine before carefully placing the glass back on the table. I stared at him intently. “All right,” I said calmly. “Did you cheat?” “No.” “Am I toxic?” “No.” “Is it about sex?” “No.” “Then why are you breaking up with me?” I asked steadily.

“There might be a reason why you suddenly want out. I want to hear it.” My boyfriend—my new ex-boyfriend, Chris—snorted and gave me a look of disbelief. “I can’t believe this! This is exactly what I am talking about. Look at you. You’re always damn calm and collected. You can’t even show emotion after I asked to break up with you.

Do you even love me?” I was taken aback. Of course, I love him. Why else would I even stay in a relationship with him for years if I didn’t love him? Now it made me think what I truly felt for him… No. That was not important right now. “See?” He grunted. “You can’t even tell if you love me.” “Of course, I love you,” I insisted. He still had this distrustful look on his face.
