Crossfire – A P BATEMAN

“What else is there?” “Position, power, faith, wealth and ideals.” Du Plessis shrugged. “And he gets all of the above. No, trust me, he would probably have paid to get what we’ll be giving him.” “Then it sounds as though you missed an opportunity.” Preet Du Plessis smiled. “He will come in useful later. I just so happened to record our meeting, so I may have a powerful ally in the future, or a man to blackmail. Either way, he will be a valuable asset.” He paused, gesturing to the weapon system in front of them.
“Have you used one of these?” “No. But I have studied the handbook and once practised with a dummy model.” “A dummy?” Du Plessis did not hide his annoyance. “At a quarter of a million pounds a shot, my previous employers didn’t throw that kind of money around.
They don’t tend to have spare aircraft to practice on, either. But the sighting system and laser guidance simulation is an accurate representation.” “You’d better be sure, bru.” “Trust me.” “It doesn’t look like I have a choice…” “I’d worry more about the quality of your intelligence than me using this thing,” Collins replied tersely. “It was designed for the US army and marines to use against Russian aircraft, and those boys don’t tend to hit three-figure IQs.” “Don’t worry about the intel.
It’s at cabinet level. But I do worry about your colleagues,” Du Plessis said pointedly. “Don’t worry about those idiots,” Collins replied with a smile. “I’ve made sure they’ll be kept busy…” OceanofPDF.com Chapter Twenty-Two ’m taking General Mantutsi.” “You’ll do as I bloody well say.” King shook his head.
“Sorry, boss, but that’s the way it is.” Stewart glared at him but was met with the coldest eyes he had ever stared into, and that included his own each day in the mirror. It was something he had noticed as King’s missions stacked up. As if each killing took something away from the man, but added something else, too.
King simply became increasingly dangerous with every operation. “Why?” “I don’t know these guys,” he replied. “And they don’t know me, either. If what I suspect is true, then the operation will go all to shit, and I’d rather be alone on an op that’s gone tits up, than relying on somebody else.”
“None taken…” “I would sit this one out, boss. They are all experienced soldiers, and they have a clear objective. Hang back in a support role and let them go in and get Moffusa Bentuwi out of there.” King paused. “Stay out of this one and live to fight another day.” “And if you run into trouble going after General Mantutsi?”
“Then I’ll get out on my own.

Atonement OceanofPDF.com T Chapter One Uganda-Tanzania Border, Twenty Years Ago he right arm of the free-world. It should have been a pen or a chequebook. Perhaps even a bible. But it was a FN FAL rifle, and it was in King’s hands, but he felt anything but free. Its barrel was scalding hot, the stock sticky from the blood of its last owner, and it was all that stood between him and the thirty Ugandan government forces intent on killing him.
There was movement in the jungle behind him, and King picked up a spare magazine for the rifle before dragging one of the bodies by its ankle and dropping it in front of another body, before laying down behind his makeshift barrier. King reached for another magazine on the corpse in front of him, tugging it out from the man’s otherwise depleted bandolier.
He wasn’t certain if the bodies would afford him protection from enemy bullets, but they did at least shield him from view and provide the rifle with a steady rest.
