Hex Kittens – Adam Lance

“What do you mean?” “The ambient magic in this area.” The slime’s colors swirled, darker than before. “It’s thicker than it should be. Like something’s been churning the pot. Whatever your sparkly friend has been doing, it’s left residue everywhere.” “Can you track it?” “Maybe. If we get closer to the source.” Her sensory nodule twitched. “But Nick… this isn’t feeding magic. This is ritual magic. Summoning magic.
The same kind that called those snarchers last night.” Tiffany’s hands tightened on the wheel. “You’re saying it’s been practicing?” “I’m saying it’s been preparing.” Salma’s voice had lost all trace of her earlier playfulness. “And whatever it’s preparing for, it’s big.” And on that happy note, the two went on their first hunt together. Not as a couple. Well, sort of. Maybe. OceanofPDF.com Chapter 10: Velma Mode The homeless encampment sat beneath an overpass on the edge of town, just a couple miles away from her Airbnb.
It was a collection of tents and tarps that had grown up organically, likely over years. Shopping carts served as storage units. Milk crates became furniture. The whole place had the weathered, worn-in look of a community that had learned to make do with whatever the world discarded. It was also almost completely empty.
Tiffany pulled the Civic to the curb a block away, and they approached on foot. She’d committed fully to the cosplay act. She’d even grabbed a clipboard and assumed a concerned expression, the mirror-image of a social services worker doing outreach. Nick, by contrast, looked like exactly what he was: a tall man in a tactical trench coat ready to crack a joke or kick ass, depending on his mood.
Salma, who’d decided she and Tiffany were ‘best boobie friends,’ was draped across Tiffany’s shoulders. The slime had thinned herself out, her mass adding a slight sheen to the hunter’s clothes that people would likely assume was just an artifact of the manufacture. She said, “The magic residue is stronger here. Old blood. Old fear.”
They found their first contact near a burn barrel that had long since gone cold. An older man with a shopping cart full of aluminum cans, his weathered face tracking their approach with the wariness of someone who’d learned not to trust strangers. Tiffany transformed. It was subtle. A shift in posture, a softening of her expression, a change in the way she held the clipboard. Suddenly she wasn’t a monster hunter in disguise. She was a genuinely concerned young woman who wanted to help.
“Excuse me, sir? I’m with county outreach services. We’ve noticed the population here has decreased over the past few weeks. Do you have a few minutes to talk?” The old man’s eyes flicked to Nick, then back to Tiffany. “You ain’t county.” “I’m a volunteer. He’s my supervisor.” She smiled, warm and unthreatening.

We’ve taken three brilliant, spicy minds, and woven them together to create a series of bite-sized stories featuring the same characters but told through their distinct lenses. Think of it like watching episodes of your favorite TV show—just with a rotating roster of directors. What about LitRPG stuff? In short: there won’t be any. We reserve the right to use crossover characters, with fun cameos, but this time we’re going progression-lite and not LitRPG.
It makes this easier to collab over. Do we need to have read the other books in the Fateforged/Dalton-verse? Nope. Lore hounds will enjoy some fun Easter Eggs, that’s all. Read these independently if you want. What about audio? Expect monthly audio launches, with a potential for live Discord recordings.
