Hiding Voices 6 – Sarah Masters

And it isn’t as soon as, it’s if I let you go.” Oliver searched his mind, asking for images that would show him what would happen. They came, sharp, quick. He’ll let us go. He’s The Boss… Relief swarmed through him, spiders breaking out of a nest, but again he made sure his features showed nothing but impassiveness. Footsteps clattered, two sets Oliver thought, then came to a stop. He didn’t switch his mind to see who they belonged to, just concentrated on The Boss.
“Seems they’re telling the truth,” Milton said. “Rooster was surprised by the bucket donation coming from English people.” “He would say that,” The Boss sneered. “My contact said they don’t have any Brits on their books, that hearing about people from the UK finding the body was also a surprise.” Milton sniffed. Oliver sensed Dewain stiffening at that, Oliver’s recent reminder about Dewain sniffing still fresh in his mind.
“You believe him?” The Boss asked. Dewain laughed. “I don’t believe no one, man.” “I do,” Milton said. “I think these two are telling the truth.” “Only because of that witchy shit in the jail,” Dewain said. “The stuff that one said to me. Whooee.” “What stuff?” The Boss demanded. “He talked with my grandmother’s voice and said shit she’d said, mentioned things only I would know.
He’s special.” “What, you?” The Boss kicked Oliver’s foot. Do I admit it? Shit, help me, someone… “Seems you got the gift,” The Boss said. “And that means I really do have to let you go. People with the gift don’t usually do bad things, in my experience.
And I was brought up to respect the gift.” Thank you… “You just got unfortunate, eh? Got mixed up in something you shouldn’t. I got to go with my gut and release you. But not before morning. Just in case my gut is wrong and I get different information overnight. Whether you got the gift or not, it might not be the good gift, see?
For all I know, you could be one of them dark arts witches.” He cleared his throat. “You understand the way I do business, eh?” The Boss kicked Langham’s shoe. “Yes,” Langham said. “I see it all the time in my line of work.” The Boss let out a long whoop.
“I just bet you do. So, no hard feelings, eh?” “Absolutely none at all,” Langham said.

OceanofPDF.com Voices HIDING Sarah Masters OceanofPDF.com Book six in the Voices series Their holiday should mean freedom and fun. Murder has other ideas… After a murder case ruined their last break away, Oliver and Langham try again by going to the Caribbean.
Surely by flying so far from home, they’ll get a few days of peace and quiet where crime doesn’t mar their holiday. Unfortunately, like murder, fate has other ideas… They rent an idyllic vacation hut that stands on struts in a turquoise sea—so perfect, so tranquil… Until a body floats past and Langham rushes out to save their life. He’s too late, though, and after going to the police station to give a statement, Langham and Oliver are dragged into the seedy underbelly of the seemingly quiet little town.
There’s a war going on between two gangs, and with a spirit telling Oliver he must complete a request to save someone else’s life, he and Langham find themselves too close to one gang for comfort. Murder has once again dogged them—but if they’re not careful, it might actually claim them as victims. Being kidnapped isn’t their idea of a fun holiday activity, but neither is returning home to discover the nightmare isn’t over after all…
