Reported adherence to the single session drinking guidelines ranged from 26% to 61%. For example, study of female psychology students (N = 235) measured adherence to the single session guideline how many days per week they exceed three standard drinks in a single drinking session (Murgraff et 2001). Almost 75% of participants reported consumption above the guideline periodically, with over doing so two or more times per week.

An Australian study (N = 20,000) found similar adherence ra among males (35%), but much higher adherence among females (68%) to the single session guidelin (Livingston, 2012). Finally, a study (N = 992) of North American college students found 65% of pa do not adhere to the national guideline for single session drinking, and that over a year, both men and exceed the guideline every second week on average (Hoeppner et al., 2013).

Impairments in facial expression recognition can be detrimental to interpersonal relationships and wellbeing (Ruffman et al., 2008).
