The screenplay behind her eyes was torn into a million pieces and tossed around the inside of her skull like confetti. ‘THIS ISN’T PERRRRFECCCTTTTTTTTTT!’ she cried and then tore off towards the girls’ locker room. She blew the doors open and disappeared inside. Danny held his throbbing head as Freddie put his arm around him. ‘I’ve told her for the last year I wasn’t interested … I thought today … she might have … known … or understood.’ Julie threw her arms around Freddie and Danny. ‘I’m proud of you both, I really am.

She’ll be okay. We’ll find her.’ ‘She has this idea that everything is like a damn sitcom. The world has a place for everyone, and they must fit in.’ Ally said. ‘I feel bad,’ Danny said. Freddie put his arm around Danny. Julie, Gretchen, Ally, and Ginger all hugged the two guys.

‘It’ll work out,’ Julie said. ‘Yeah. Don’t worry,’ Ginger said, holding back a smirk, looking at the doors where Kelly ran through. ‘You two being so honest, well, now that really is perfect.’ 1kitap1.com/en Chapter 13 Kelly ran down the empty school hallway, her footfalls cold and lonely on the polished tiles. Tears streamed from her face as she fled. It wasn’t supposed to be like this! She played her part in making everything perfect, and the greater gods of perfection had let her down!

‘It’s not fair!’ she howled. ‘It’s not faiirrrr!’ Kelly ran into the girls’ bathroom on the third floor and slammed the door behind her. She ran to one of the sinks and pounded her fists on either side of the dreary water-stained mirror above it.

All her hard work making her face look perfect had washed away with her tears; she was a streaked mascara mess. Kelly let out a loud shriek and pulled at her pigtails. ‘Ding-dong! It’s all gone wrong!’ There was no studio audience in her mind to laugh at her comedy rhyme, just cold dead silence. Kelly stopped snorting and snuffling and stared at herself. ‘Oh no …’ she whined petulantly.

‘I’ve been canceled! Just like Saved by the Belllllll!’ More tears poured down her face as she howled in sadness. ‘It’s all gone wrong! No more Saved by the Bell! No more Kapowski! And to top it all off, my hunk of a boyfriend is a queerrrrrr!’

– Beverly Hills, California. 1985 Christie Kennedy swerved down palm tree-lined streets in her brand new BMW, speeding so fast everything outside churned to a blur. Her eight- year-old daughter, Kelly, sat beside her, hands on the dash clinging for dear life. Christie looked as she did every day: too much makeup, a real fur coat, stocking-covered legs, and white high heels.

She was the epitome of a Beverly Hills woman on the outside … but on the inside … ‘I’m telling you, honey, we’re going to catch the fucking kook in the act this time.’ Christie poured a line of coke on the dashboard from a baggie, leaned in, and hoovered it up like a human vacuum.

She washed down the narcotics with a mouthful of whisky from her hip flask and then tossed the flask in the back. ‘Mom!’ Kelly cried as the BMW veered onto the wrong side of the road, heading straight towards an oncoming bus. Christie pulled the car back to her lane; clouds of white smoke peeled from the tires, like the clouds of white drugs rushing through her brain. ‘I got it! I got it!’ Christie hissed. Then with vicious rage – something that was happening more often than not – she grabbed Kelly’s nearest pigtail and yanked it.

‘Ding-dong! Keep out of my driving, dork breath! I know what I’m doing!’
