Cocktails For The Apocalypse – Jennifer McCartney

And Vietnam. And the first Gulf War. And in Syria in 2018. And they’ve only had five crashes involving nukes.* So yeah, drink to the end of the world. Or to this badass plane. Or to the song “Love Shack.” Whichever thing floats your boat. ⅓ ounce coffee liqueur (Kahlúa) ⅓ ounce Irish cream (Baileys) ⅓ ounce orange liqueur (Grand Marnier) This is one of those shots that you’re supposed to layer. No pressure. Add the coffee liqueur to a shot glass.
Slowly add the Irish cream over top (try pouring it over the back of a spoon), and do the same with the orange liqueur. It should look sort of stripy. * That we know of. 1kitap1.com/en Bunker Brew Remember those parties in college when the keg ran out? And then everyone started dipping their cups in the runoff beer from the garbage can underneath the keg? Yeah, this is that as a cocktail. This is the “recipe” you use when you’re not a recipe person and you’ve got some random booze you need to consume.
4¼ cups orange juice 1 cup vodka ½ cup Sprite or lemonade Orange slices (optional) Get a pitcher. Fill it halfway with ice. Add the orange juice, vodka, and soda to the pitcher. Use a spoon to mix it up, and serve over ice in red plastic cups if you can. Otherwise, just use whatever you have in the way of glasses and add a few orange slices if you’re on some kind of health kick. 1kitap1.com/en Merry Widow The Merry Widow is a 1905 operetta by Austro-Hungarian composer Franz Lehár.
Originally premiering in Vienna as Die lustige Witwe, this smash hit was performed all over the world, including on Broadway. The popular show inspired a type of women’s hat, a corset, and a reusable condom.* And this cocktail. It’s basically a martini with some French alcohol thrown in. 1½ ounces gin 1½ ounces dry vermouth 2 dashes absinthe 2 dashes Bénédictine Dash of bitters Lemon twist for garnish Stir all the ingredients with ice.
Strain and serve up with a lemon twist. * These were washed inside and out after each use and returned to the little box or tin from whence they came. 1kitap1.com/en Manhattan Project* This is basically a Manhattan.

—William Shakespeare The idea of a global apocalypse wiping out everything we know and love has been around for many centuries. Originating in whenever bc in various religious texts, the idea is that at some point, the end of the world will come. Eventually, those texts will be correct. In the meantime, however, we’ve got loads of little mini-apocalypses happening daily. Lucky us! The oceans are burning. The deserts are flooding. UFOs (sorry, UAPs) are real, according to Congress, and glaciers are turning to liquid.
There’s also the threat of nuclear war, regular war, and according to scientists, we’re in the midst of the sixth great extinction. What better moment in human history than now to take a big, long celebratory drink or five. We did it! We ruined everything! Now pass the eggnog. But please don’t feel stressed. Collapse is the way of the universe; from order to entropy we go. Or maybe everything is a cycle—what is old will become new again? Or perhaps we all just turn to dust.
It depends what prophecy you consult. So there’s no point in feeling fretful. Let’s enjoy what we’ve got, hey? Celebrations with our loved ones are a chance to have fun with what little life we have left on this planet—either as individuals or collectively. Enter Cocktails for the Apocalypse.
